Socceroos World Cup Campaign

Wednesday, June 28th, 2006

Well what happened in that last 30 seconds was devestating, but what was worse is that we couldn’t score against 10 men! Pretty amazed at the support that the socceroos got. Went to Star City to watch the game nice and early at 1am.

Started out there was a huge line to get to the main scream outside the food court area, and it just grew. This was at 10pm. But eventually we got into the casino and walked around. There were screens everywhere so you weren’t goin to miss the action.

Karina came late cause she went to Coldplay concert, but the lines in were huge at that time. took her about 1 hr to get in, and she just got in on time to see the kickoff.

Eventually everyone took the seats from poker machines, tables, bars any chair that was not bolted was moved infront of a big screen. It was amazing to see that when the game was on, no one was playing machines, and most of the tables were empty. Once half time came, everyone was back on the machines and tables.

Stopped a nation probably. The atmosphere was ok, but could have been better live. Lots of ooohs and ahhhs, followed by the normal, you #@&* get up, stop diving.

But in the end, i think the Socceroos weren’t good enough. We should have won that game, but it would have been hard to break the italians defence. They only let 1 real goal in the whole World Cup, the other was an own goal. Even with 10 players they defended awesome, and on the counter they were very smooth. While the socceroos toiled away and you could see the skill level as a team wasn’t as good as Italy. I guess we did miss "gout boy" but in the end not good enough.

So I think everyone who says we should have won and got robbed, well we didn’t make the most of our chances, it sucks cause after italy we would have had an awesome chance against Ukraine, but alas next time.

Don’t blame Lucas Neil, he was the best player, got lazy in 5 seconds and had to pay for it, that sucks. Neil MVP for Socceroos man.

The queens birthday weekend is a Long weekend that we always like. Few things are special around this time. One thing is its my birthday and also its our anniversary. This year we decided to head to Malaysia for a short trip. Namely to shop and relax.

We booked to stay at the Sunway Lagoon Villas in KL. Reviews said it was a good resort however a bit far out from downtown KL. But the Cab fares and challenges of getting to the CBD was no problem and super cheap.

In downtown my favourite place has got to be Sungai Wai, home of the cheap electronics and DVDS, also heaps of cheap clothing and good shopping. We did a lot of shopping during our stay, at places like Sungai Wai, Lot 10, 1utama, also in Chinatown in Petaling Street and a few other places. Heaps of good imitation stuff. We both stocked up. Be good to go back and find more bargains.

One of the best things was to bargain with the shops even tho it was a bargain to start with. One of the highlights I guess was when I bargained for a belt that was 20 Ringgit to 10 Ringgit. But the thing was I bargained for a bit and eventually he wouldn’t move. So I walked away, and I was about 3 stalls down and you just hear “OK LAH, 10!” followed by a Hand sticking out waving me in! ahhahah Crack up.

Next on the hit list was celebrating our 5 year Anniversary and what way to do it but get pampered. We went to Ritz Carlton for a couples package. Karina got a total body and pamper package with a body wrap massage, and rose bath, while I got a body scrub and a massage including sauna. We both came out so relaxed. It was amazing. That was my first massage and can’t wait to get another like that.

We did do some sightseeing here, we went up to the Sunway Lagoon theme park, Genting Highlands and the Batu Caves, but that’s about it I think. Other than that relaxed and enjoyed the time together in KL. The weather was good only rained a few times, and once really heavy. One thing you must take into account is the traffic was nuts. A few good memories was driving in packed traffic with motorbikes hooning around everywhere.

Food was awesome in KL, I missed all the stuff from a while ago. Yum, Karina loved it too and even tho we ate a lot we also walked it off. Secret was to eat little but a lot of times. Anyway can’t wait to head out on another quick break.
