What a weekend this weekend was, we were all set for a awesome weekend
with the Swans in the Grand Final for the AFL and the Tigers playing to
be in the Grand Final for the first time as a joint venture and the
first time since 89′ for my beloved Balmain Tigers.
What a roller coaster day it was, watching the Swans kick some eagles
butts in the 2nd Qtr, then Ablett giving the Eagles the lead through the
a huge error in front of goal. But watching Buchana kick the goal to
give us the lead, was awesome. Excitement was building and the tension
was killing us, as we kept our eyes on the clock and the scoreboard, but
not the game as they couldn’t stretch the lead pass 6 points. But the
moment and sound that gave us the biggest cheer was watching Leaping Leo
mark in front of the scoring area followed by the huge roar of the crowd
and the siren sounding was relief and joy. Swans were now AFL PREMIERS!
A moment in that game that really made you think that they would win was
when Ablett made the big mistake but the team mates all rallied around
him. Not many people may have seen this, but if you watched in the
background as all the Eagles players are celebrating, you would have
seen all the Swans run up to Ablett and tell him to keep his chin up and
encouraged him, no one told him off, they supported him as teammates
should. I think at that point it was safe to say that this swans team
was not going to give up and choke like parra. But they were going to
fight this out.
What could beat that you ask? Well I still remember the 88 & 89 Grand
Finals for the Tigers, watching in 88′ as Terry Lamb took out Ellery
Hanley with a late high shot that took him out of the game. Then to
watch in 89′ as Benny Elias field goal attempt hit the post with about 2
mins to play, have stayed here with me and I have waited for 16 years
for the Tigers to get back and in the Grand Final for a chance to redeem
ourselves and Win one for Balmain. So on Sat night after the elation of
the Swans win, the scene was set at K place. I was pretty much
outnumbered 4:1 in supporters for the tigers. But Watching Benji,
halatau and hodgson play and kick ass was so good, especially when
Hodgson had the ball with seconds to play and the scoreboard saying
20-12 TIGERS, to hear the SIREN was awesome. But now we got 1 more game
to win before this becomes elation.
The passion of the fans really got me when watching this. Watching as
players celebrated and so did the fans, I thought hey what about the
other team and fans. Watching all those Saints fans in the crowd that
hadn’t moved for over 10-15 mins after the game, and just sit there
staring blanky at the field, crying, heads bowed, seeing KP lying down
on the floor crying his brains out (not really but he was a sad soul for
a bit). I thought, WOW!! the passion in sport is really alive for
supporters and that’s why I spose we barrack for the teams we do so we
can feel these emotions. The euphoria of winning a Grand Final, to
losing one.
I definitely give props to the dragon fans who came to share the game
with us, as they didn’t bag me out or trash too much, and hopefully I
didn’t make you guys feel any worse after the game. If so sorry about
that, we shouldn’t do any trash talking after games are finished. Once
its finished that’s it for me, good game and move on. Definitely hate
those guys that keep going on and trashing after the game. Those
supporters piss me off, game banter during the game every now and again
I spose is ok, but not when the game is finished.
Humility is what we should all show and not give it to these supporters
and teams that lose a game, as in reality there is always a team and a
supporter that will lose the game, but hopefully not lose face. So word
out to all the Dragon fans (KP) head up and next year will be another
year and another chance at feeling the Euphoria, but don’t lose faith in
your team just because of one lose. They deserve a lot better and so do
you. So onto the next game it is for both teams.GO THE
TIGERS and DRAGONS!
