Easter break and our plans are to head down the coast to Jindabyne via Bega and the south coast. This weekend should be full of mountain biking and outdoor adventures, or so we hope.
We headed off at 10am, thought we would either miss the traffic or get caught right up in it. That and we were both up til 2am, either packing or just relaxing. So after finally getting our stuff packed and into the car we were off down the coast.
Everything was kinda smooth sailing, petrol wasn’t extremely high for Easter. We filled up for $1.28, which sounds so expensive but is relatively cheap these days. Then continued down the coast. But once we hit Heathcote we started to see some traffic, but it was nothing compared to what we will get up ahead. The day was nice and calm with sunshine and blue skies.
Further along the road, all memories of the long lonely drives down to Shellharbour and Milton for work came back. But this time I had Karina with me. But she did spend most of the time sleeping.
Just as we hit Albion Park the traffic built up and we were in the traffic jam from hell. Crawling along from Albion Park to Shellharbour. The pace was so slow it wasn’t funny. I’m talking about so slow that old ladies were walking faster than us on the side. Eventually we peeled off onto back streets to try and skip ahead of the traffic jam. This succeeded and we ended up towards the front of the traffic jam. Eventually once pass Kiama the traffic flowed, with the new Bombo by pass finish it was smooth sailing. We stopped at SOMETHING POINT to have a look at the view and have a quick snack.
Next stop should be Batemans Bay. The drive down here was uneventful, but the scenery was nice and very relaxing. So relaxing Karina went to sleep again. Just before Berry we did however hit some traffic but after ducking down through some back streets I managed to get ahead of most of the traffic. Passing through Nowra, we decided to stop and get a map as later on we were going to do some bush bashing just to get to Jindabyne.
Finally reaching BatemansBay at about 3pm a full 2 hours after we should have, we had some seafood lunch, quick and ordinary but it wasn’t that good. We grabbed some fresh prawns for the Hiroshima Yaki.
Our plans were to stop in Bega and see what the place was to offer but it was getting late so we had to swing by Bega and head off to Nimmitabel and start our bush bashing adventure.
Bega to Nimmitabel was a good drive up the mountains with top speed being about 60km/ph. On a windy road. It was awesome drive but it started pouring rain, which made it a bit hard, but it was awesome drive. Winding my way up the top of the mountain in the dark with rain and leaves falling everywhere. Once at the top of the mountain it was a pretty straight drive to Nimmitabel.
Once we arrived here it was off onto the adventure. Then our next destination was Dalgety. But this was via 15km of dirt tracks with no lights and no real road signs. Actually there were no road signs. On the way through here I decided that 80km/ph was a safe speed so headed off at that speed around the course. The course was full gravel with ruts in the middle and wet patches all over the place. IT was almost like a rally track. Yuli did warn me about the kangaroos and other animals that were in the area. SO my eyes were kinda peeled. Managed to miss 4 rabbits, 5 sheep and probably 2 kangaroos, well I hope they were kangaroos. But what I did manage to hit was a tree stump in the middle of the road. So at this stage damage is not that bad. After reaching Dalgety it was almost at the end. Finally crossing The snowy river and over towards Jindabyne, and down to Yuli place where she had a Roast dinner and dessert waiting for us. What a day. All driving. But tomorrow should be all exercise and that should make for great adventure.
